We know that the software is very easy to use - but I wonder, once you're past the printing phase and are actually building it it - how useful are the plans?? Is anyone at that stage where they can say they're running trains thanks to an AnyRail designed layout plan??

Would love to hear people's experiences!

Well as one of the early users of AnyRail  Wink, I've come further than ever before. I've got all the track layed out, all DCC wiring done, and running my trains completely automatically with an old PC that I connected to my Intellibox (a German brand DCC Central Unit).

If you would like to see some pictures, please go here:

Please forgive me, the captions with the photos are in Dutch.

Wow, amazing pictures! It's really cool how you can see the AnyRail design appear on the final product!
How long have you been working on your layout? Looks like it's going to have plenty of operational interest!

The planning of this layout took a few months. I tried a lot of alternatives, but in the end, I didn't want a layout full of track (in the visible areas). This time, I want to really create some nice scenery.

I started the building of it about one year ago. Currently, it is only progressing very slowly as I don't find much time for it!

Yes -

My Lofthole Layout is complete, has been featured in the N-Gauge Modern Newsletter (complete with the Anyrail plan, and due to be exhibited in October at TadRail.

The track used is Kato - took a bit of adjusting because I hacksawed some of the  Kato track sections, so used Peco flex track in Anyrail to repersent this.

Yeah, that, I think, is one of the big minuses in Kato and other 'All-in-one' track systems- you can't nudge the track much and you sure can't get any major flexibility in design.

@David-

Pardon me, but in some of the shots, it looks as if there's an awful lot of separation between parallel tracks. Is it real or just a trick of photo perspective?

@Jeff, indeed, there's quite a distance between parallel track (6.16cm centerline). This is due to the RocoLine 'set track' geometry that I follow for the bits that are out of sight. For the parts that are in the visible areas I use flex track as much as possible.

http://tinyurl.com/23j5fxq and http://tinyurl.com/27cyhgf are a couple shots of Pelican Island. Also included the .any file. A South Sea island resort in a 11 x 17 inches in a Pelican model 1500 case. On18 (O Scale on N Tomix Finetrack) tramway that picks up the tourists who are delivered by the inter-island carferry to the dock and takes them to their resort cabins. The buildings and trees will store below the layout. Printed the .any file full size for a test fit then put the track together when it got here from Japan. You can take it to other people's houses on layout tours! - Russ
