David,
to really enjoy Australia, I would suggest staying for a lot more than 2 weeks.............try a lifetime!
I have been in Australia for 25 years and only seen about 5% of the country....

Unfortunately we only have two weeks this time. We'll be in Perth and Augusta. We'd love to see more of the country, but those distances! Any recommendations on (model) railroading in that area?

David,
afraid this is the wrong side of the country for me, I have only been there on business.
There is a railway museum in Perth which does have a few interesting steam locomotives.

Hi David,
I'm based in Adelaide so cannot really help you in Perth.
There are 2 websites that could help you http://www.railpage.com.au/ and http://www.amrawa.com/.

When are you looking at coming out to Perth?

Hi guys,

We arrived yesterday (Friday) morning in Perth, WA.
Smooth flight, a bit long though from Amsterdam!

Thanks for the tip on the railway museum. I'll give it a try!

Hi David,
You've arrived in the nice part of the year. Not too hot and not cold and wet, for Southern Australia anyway.
Thought I'd start a new topic seeing as it's not a "problem issue".

Enjoy your stay in Perth. Dwellingup has a restored timber railway, though you may have to check that it's running as they may stop it for the fire season.

True, the weather is great here today.

I'll see about Dwellingup. They run during weekends only, so maybe tomorrow!

Hi David,
How was Dwellingup?? or did you have other things planned. Hope you've had good weather and have enjoyed yourselves.
Adelaide holds a small model rail expo every year on the 1st weekend in June, here's the website. http://www.modelrailwayshow.org.au/

Hi Andrew,

I've just returned back home. We've never made it to Dwellingup, not enough time during the weekends.
I've been to the railway museum in Perth though, which turned out to be quite interesting. It's a shame they're only open a few hours per week.

It all turned out to be a great short vacation! Been to the south, Augusta, Margaret River, Cape Leeuwin and its lighthouse. And up to the north of Perth to the Pinnacles. Very impressive!

Anyway, back to normal again, and getting the team up to speed for version 4.

Hi David,
Glad to had a good time. Sometimes short holidays to get away from it all, help clears the head and gets the direction right. It does for me.
We'll be in Germany/Switzerland in June this year, staying with my in-laws. We haven't seen them for nearly 4 years.
Look forward to the next AnyRail version.

Hi David,
glad to hear you managed to get to the museum.  I don't think you will find any R-T-R models of the locos they have.  You were in the heart of the WA wine region, hope you had a chance to enjoy that as well.

Hi Charlie,

Indeed, we've seen a lot of wineries! We did not really visit one of them, but sure I enjoyed some of the WA wines (and beers Wink )
