David,
I need some help in clarifying exactly how Anyrail uses the "position" when joining two pieces of track.  Is the "position" (x and y coordinates) the centre point between the two rails once the two pieces of track are joined?
Thanks in advance......

Hi Charlie,

Normally, with 'Snap dropped parts' on, both ends of the track will make a perfect connection.
If that feature is off, track will connect (if the tolerances are met) when the endpoint of the dragged part and the existing endpoint are close enough, but the part will not be shifted and rotated into place.

The coordinates of the connection is in fact the position exactly between the connected endpoints. In the first case, it exactly matches the endpoints.

AnyRail shows you two sets of coordinates. One is of the form (x,y), showing the mouse position.
The other one is of the form (x,y,z), and is only shown when hovering endpoints or connections. It shows the coordinates of the endpoints (z = height), or the coordinates of the connection as explained above.

Hope this helps.

Thanks David.
I should have said I was trying to measure the distance between the edge of the track and the edge of the platforms I will have in my station.  I was using this to ensure I had enough clearance for the locos and coaches.
The edge of the platform is available, from the draw a line feature, but the edge of the track needs to be calculated.
I have previously raised a request for updating the ruler for improved measuring of short distances, as it is harder to use in these situations.  I was therefore trying to use the "position" feature.
Any other suggestions in this area would be appreciated.

Hello Charlie,

The best solution to this would be a clearance check with simulated locos and coaches. We have ideas about this, but it's not planned yet.

In the meantime, you could maybe draw square (with the line/surface tool) of the minimum distance.
If you want, you can give it round corners to create a circle.
Next, you could make few copies of that circle, and try to fit (drag) them between the track and the edge of the platform.

I know it's a bit tricky.
