Following a meeting with my interior architect, it's become clear that our house lacks sufficient spaces for storage, and the prime target is all the space underneath my layout.

I was wondering if anyone had had experience putting storage beneath a layout?

What is a good recommended table height for trains?

Thanks for any advice fellow AnyRail users could provide...

I've got 90cm of free space under my table. That's convenient when you need to sit underneath it to repair or install something. The frame is 7cm, so the lower (hidden staging) area is at 97cm.
On top of that, 15cm higher, there is the station etc. at 112cm. I find that a nice height for viewing while sitting on a stool, and for working on the layout while standing. It's also out of reach for my youngest child Wink

One mistake I made with an earlier layout is to put it too low, making it very hard and uncomfortable to crawl underneath. And I can assure you that you need to go there every once in a while.

About storage: I've put all my train stuff in boxes under the table. Hardly any room left. In my opinion, it's not a good idea to store a lot of stuff there, especially in the building phase, as you have to move it around all the time to reach certain areas. That's a true demotivator!

Thanks David for sharing that. I'm not sure whether I'll be physically able to keep the table quite as high, but it does give me a good lithmus to work with.

The storage requirements are in particular excess CDs and DVDs that just will have a hard time fitting in our living room, so I was thinking of having storage cupboards on rollers that I could move around as needed.

To give you a sense of my height between floor to ceiling - it varies at 1m to 1m80 to 3m... That said the 1 meter space is mostly where the access pathways will be located.
