I use Google Sketchup (free) to draft the room and bench. I then manually transfer the vertices into DRail via Sketchup's Tape Measure Tool and DRails Set Position. It takes a while but at least there will be no surprises when you start building.

OK, heading over to Suggestions to request an import function.

Hi Vintage,

Can you post an image showing the results of such an importing procedure??

Here is an image of my room layout:

I use Sketchup's tape measure tool to reference every point I want to transfer in x and y.

Now imagine having a DRail plugin for Sketchup. I guess that's one for the wish list Smiley

Indeed, the combination of DRail and Sketchup is very powerful.
However, currently we are first going to focus on the 2D capabilities of DRail. Of course, even 'flat' designs could easily be viewed and manipulated in Sketchup. You can obtain a gif or jpg file from DRail by using the 'Export as...' item in the File menu of DRail.

It's crazy expensive.

There is free version of Sketchup as well!

See here for a comparison chart.

I sure do like this part - "Google Earth Integration
Include real world context for your models, including aerial photos and terrain, from Google Earth". So you could model a prototype and have links to satellite photos of it. I think what I would miss in the expensive version is the ability to host a design online and collaborate with others.

Please can someone give me the URL of the free download. I have been going round in circles here trying to find it. I did find one page with a download button but all it did was to take me to another page that told me what the system requirements were and then took me back to the previous page.

All the best,
Chris.

Thanks Sander.

My Firefox didn't want to know about it, presumably something to do with my tight security settings. Managed to get it using Safari.

Best wishes,
Chris.
