Good Day:

Attached is my first pass at a complete N-Scale layout. I had a 6 x 10 HO layout for over 15 years, but I had to give that up when I moved two years ago. Space is at a premium and the best I can do now is an L-shape 7 x 5 as shown in the attached .any file. I envision this to be a lumber-oriented layout with long runs. I had Easy DCC on my HO layout and I really liked that, so I'll almost certainly go with it again this time. There is a wall on the left, a wall at the back, and a closet on the right as you look at the layout. I'd prefer the long run to be at the front, but space limitations don't allow that. The reverse loop on the left will be hidden with the portals at the first straight sections in the back left corner. I haven't sectioned it yet, but that's on my list. Any comments?

Thanks.

Don, K7DM

Hi Don,
What I like in your plan is that you've not put too much in it. And I'm a big fan of the dog bone style layouts.

I do have a few comments though. I hope you can appreciate them!

-The two reverse loops are fine as long as you know how to wire them for DCC.
-The curves in the sidings will make it a bit difficult to couple and uncouple cars.
- I would try to get the 180 (270) degree turn at the right out of sight.

Maybe you could try take advantage of the room you have diagonally, and put the station there (from left down to right up). Things will be a bit closer to the viewer as well.

David:

Thanks for your comments. I had several reverse loops on my HO layout and had no problem with them, so I don't anticipate any problem with this layout. As the saying goes, great minds think alike and I had already changed the sidings a bit (see the new version), although I left one curved one in to use as a lumber yard area. I envisioned the loop on the left being hidden and the one on the right circling some sort of village. The diagonal idea won't work because of space limitations (there's a fly-tying/work desk on the wall opposite the layout), so I'm restricted to the size and shape shown in the plan, but I did rearrange the work area a bit

Thanks again.
