David,
Suggestions for the ruler:-
1. would it be possible to be able to hold down the shift key while changing the length of the ruler and get it to remain straight while doing so?  The same as I suggested for flexible track.
2. It is not always easy to read the length of the ruler when working with short lengths.  eg measuring the difference between parallel tracks.  Could the distance be at the side of the ruler and not on top of it?
