Hello David

I'm having a major problem with setting heights.

What I would like to see is the ability to lock in a height for a piece so that it cannot be changed except by the user.  I've just spent several hours setting heights on my layout plan using your methodology of disconnecting the section to be a certain height, then setting the adjoing end to the same height and reconnecting.  One piece simply would not reconnect, so I deleted it, got new piece from library, set it to correct height and put it in position.  THE WHOLE LAYOUT CHANGED TO THAT HEIGHT!!!!!

I don't know whether we are allowed to mention other software on this forum, but I have been using XtrkCad, which does have this facility (and a few others worth looking at).  Unfortunately, it appears to have died a death, as the website has not been updated for 3 years!

Kind regards

Nick

Hi Nick,

Thanks for your suggestion! We'll try to find a way to makie it easier.
In the meantime, please be aware that you can always Undo and Redo all your steps in AnyRail.

So, if you make a mistake, or things go wrong, just press Ctrl-Z to Undo, and Ctrl-Y to Redo.

Hi David,

Not sure what happened, but if you got an incomplete post, just delete/ignore!

Let's try again!

To set heights:

1. Select starting point (usually lowest level).
2. Disconnect from rest of layout, and move rest of layout away just a little.
3. Set height.
4. Glue that section.
5. Disconnect the next part to be set, and move it slightly (but don't let it reconnect to first bit yet)
6. Set the heights required, with the end to be reconnected at EXACTLY the same height as the first part.
7. Move the second part to reconnect with the first.  It will automatically become "Glued" and therefore will not change.

Hi Nick,

That's correct, but the 'glueing' does not lock the height, only the x/y position.
You can lock the height by right clicking the point and selecting 'Lock height'.

It is a bit dangerous, as you can create steep gradients if you change the height of the track around the locked point.
