Title: Change flex size
Post by: phivdw on January 07, 2021, 05:14:09 PM
Hello,

I Have 2 requests

1) Maybe I'm doing wrong but when I cut a flex I never got the exact size and there is a small gap.
A function that adapt the size after connection to the correct value could be useful.

2) Sometimes I would like to increase/decrease the size of a flex by a known value
Currently I delete the flex, take a new one, put it // to the place, and Cut it.
A function showing the current size and where we can enter a new size would be usefull

Thank you

Philippe

In which situation are you left with a gap? In many cases, you can simply drag the endpoint of the flex onto an existing other endpoint, and AnyRail will make the fit. You may need to use the 'Smooth flex' function afterwards.

When hovering a flex, you always see the length on the status bar at the bottom.
If a flex is straight, you can use use the 'Flex Straight...' function for a specific length.

Hi David,

It is when on both point the rails are already in place and cannot be moved.
I insert a flex, it connects on one end but overlap the other rails and I have to cut it to fit.
I cut it with a larger value and ask connection.
But it is not always easy to cut it when there is an overlap.
My way of working is :
1) put the flex on one endpoint with auto-connect
2) use Add a // flex at 2 cm
3) cut the new flex at the position of the other endpoint
4) delete the 'not used' parts of the new flex
5) delete the old connected flex
6) put the new cut flex on one point with auto-connect
7) Manually connect the other end.

If I cut too long or too short the size is not correct..

But there is maybe an easier way to do it ?
I would say, I use the above procedure very often.

The other point, I decide to extend the drawing by increasing some flex sizes by 2 cm
1) Disconnect 1 to x rails
2) move the part of the drawing.
For each disconnected rail :
3) create new flex with new length = (old detail length) + 2 cm (with flex Straight)
4) Delete old flex
5) Connect new flex
When done
7) reconnect the above moved drawing.
'Flex Straight' is not working on existing flex but could resume above point 3 to 5 to only one step.

I know I'm a little bit lazy ;-)

Hi Philippe, you can just grab the loose endpoint with your mouse and drop it onto the other endpoint.
Here is a video that tells it all:

Hi David

True, I do not think to merge those two function together. it's working great and it is quicker than my way.

Thank you
