Problems / 7.9.1 height contours
Last post by kef207 - June 19, 2025, 04:32:50 PM
In 7.9.1 update I have lost the 3D view rendering of the height contours.  All I get is shown in the attached screen grab.

Anyone else having this problem?

Can you direct me on how to revert to the previous version?

Thanks!

For what it's worth, I have a spreadsheet I use that does the math for me when I'm building custom objects, e.g. when overlapping two rectangles and I want the second to be in the centre of the first. For example, if the first rectangle is 100x100 with the top-left node being at point 100/100, and the second rectangle is 50x50, then it's easy to figure that its top-left node should be at 125/125. But that can get really painful to calculate manually, very quickly.

It would also be good to have an output displayed of a line's angle relative to the X or Y axis. For example, if an object is rotated 37.5 degrees anticlockwise, after it's saved, there's no way to know what that angle is so that it can be moved back to horizontal if needed. This sort of thing could be useful when building curved flex parts to fit between turnouts as well.

New versions / Why is a reboot sometimes requ...
Last post by David - June 14, 2025, 08:33:57 PM
Since version 7.9.0, we've introduced thumbnails and previews.

These are the small images and larger previews that you can see in the File Explorer.

To accomplish this, the File Explorer uses a DLL we've created (ThumbNailProvider.dll). This DLL runs in the background as a so called COM Surrogate. When the File Explorer creates or updates the images, this DLL is locked, and cannot be replaced by the update process.

So if you are lucky, and the File Explorer is closed or not locking this DLL, the update runs smoothly.
The update process can't close the DLL, as it runs in a separate environment.
In that case, your only option is to complete the installation with a reboot required.

I'm sorry about this!

In a future edition, I would like to see a built-in calculator panel.

Thanks for the reply.  Bummer.  The plot plans are useful but a simple 3D block version would be super great.

Hi all (and David in particular),

I'm looking at creating and then uploading a few template rolling stock elements, which for now have to be fixed objects. But as a way of futureproofing, is it worth adding markers for the axles/bogie centres so that if/when rolling stock uploads are properly supported, these user objects can be converted? What would be an appropriate way to flag these sorts of things?

Also, how should the items be categorised, if they're based on scaled drawings of real rolling stock items rather than a specific manufacturer's model? Should they be listed under the real manufacturer or operator, or with an empty field or something else?

For the buildings we've added, these were created in Blender by us, using their 2D footprints as a base.
However, a few format transformations are required to use these in our 3D engine.
