Wish list / Work with heights
Last post by JorgenL - February 25, 2024, 01:24:58 PM
My layout is in many levels so I work a lot with heights and it's very time consuming. To make it easier I would appreciate if I can mark an endpoint and change the height with the thumbwheel of the mouse an see the corresponding height "live". Also I want to check/uncheck "Lock height" in the "Set Height" window with the possibility to "Save and lock heights" in one click.
Finally I would like "Easement" for heights. If I go from 0 to 3% grade I would like to have AnyRail to make the first trackpiece 0,5%, next 1,0%, the third 1,5% and so on until I have reached the maximum grade.

I think the descpriotins are clear enough.
Unfortunately, it's not so easy to scale a complete user object.

Hi all,

I've borrowed a set of Kato bridge columns from a family member, and I'm now adding these to the user objects database.

The first set I'm working on is 23-018, the concrete #5 pillars. I'm trying to make it obvious where a future adjustment might include connection nodes for track/viaducts/etc, and the plan view uses shading to make sure the various parts are visible.

For clearance, these are the numbers I'm providing in the description:
Heights from floor, mm: Plinth 18.7, Underside cap 94.3, Top cap 149.6, Top S-clip 153.5mm, S248V deck 185.8, S248V railhead 207.6

The image shows what the terms refer to. Are those clear, and/or are any other numbers required?

Edit: Damn, just realised I had the wrong setting on my calipers, all these numbers are wrong by roughly 3:1. Do I need to start the model over from scratch, or can it be resized? I can fix the above height measurements easily enough:
Plinth 6mm
Underside Cap 30.2mm
Top Cap 47.9mm
Top of S-Clips 48.9mm
S248V deck 58.2mm
S248V railhead 66.0mm

Wish list / Show bridges, show embankments...
Last post by Gunzel73 - February 24, 2024, 01:21:34 PM
In addition to Show > Hidden Track, Visible Track, Track Ends, can this menu be expanded to show Tunnels, Embankments, Bridges separately as well?

Wish list / Re: Structures in 3D View

That would require going through the 3,000 or so user objects and establishing heights for each of them.

Wish list / Structures in 3D View
Last post by jscupstid1962 - February 24, 2024, 12:43:41 AM
If the structure objects would include as a minimum their height and elevation, it would be nice to have simple rectangles or cylinders act as place holders in the 3D view.  The terrain could flow around and under these like it does with the track pieces.

Also, a nice addition would be a set of  road objects that would connect much like the track connects.  Height and slope would be perfect with the ability to insert a point (similar to a cut in the flex track).  Then in the 3D view, the terrain could be drawn with respect to the roads as it does with the track pieces.

Show the turntable in 3D view.

I know this is a lot of work, but it would make AnyRail probably the leading model railroad CAD software.

Wish list / Roadbed colours
Last post by Gunzel73 - February 22, 2024, 05:58:11 PM
This idea combines three features already available.

1) Show > Roadbed / Trace / Width
2) Track > Standard / Embankment / Tunnel / Bridge
3) 3D view > Color / Texture for Roadbed / Sleepers / Track / Ground / Underside / Tunnels

Could a feature be added to the in 2D view, to allow selection of different colours (or textures) for the trackbed width trace for each of the four track types, e.g. green background for embankments, grey for ballasted, white or transparent for bridges? Otherwise tunnels, standard and bridges are distinguishable, but I don't know how embankments are flagged?

I really hope I got the roof styles and orientations correct then. I spent half a day looking at assorted eBay listings, because that's just about the only way to get high quality photos.

Wish list / Substitute Parts and Group Par...
Last post by Gunzel73 - February 22, 2024, 05:37:12 PM
Following on from an earlier discussion about the sheer number of Kato Unitrack variants, and presumably similar issues with some other brands e.g. Peco.

1) Substitute Equivalent
Add a menu item when right-clicking a track piece, between "search these parts" and "details", called "substitute equivalent". This would load a list of all items with exactly the same geometry; the user can then select one to immediately replace the item on the field. For example, this would make cycling between S248 (20-000) and S248PC (20-875) somewhat faster; much faster if it could be applied to more than one S248 at a time.

2) Group Parts by Geometry
Add a third checkbox in the Search menu, Group Parts by Geometry, so that instead of searching for all WS248, WS248G, WS248PC, WS248S separately, this would cause the search function to select the whole of all these groups at once. For now, the feature could be kept fairly simple, but at a later date it should be amended such that this grouping will not also select parts WS248GF (track feeder), WS248INC (incline), or any of the truss bridges WS248T (20-435 to 20-439), because these cannot be directly substituted.
