Peco Geometry Problem?

Two Peco Finescale 55 10 Degree crossings, connected by a section of flex track that's been straightened and re straightened more times than I can remember -- angle set to 90 degrees on connected line.  Left end of section at height(Y) is 6 inches but right end height is at 6 1/32".

Only additional information, not in attached .any file is that i'm running AnyRail version 3.21.0 EN.

See attached

Added by edit:  I didn't realize it was the same problem, but I've designed ladders of Peco double slip switches and they never quite "aligned" as I'd have expected them to.  Double slip has same geometry as crossing so I tried them (on my computer, you can replicate using the original attachment)-- and have same problem.

Hello Mike,

This problem seems to be caused by a small rounding error in the crossing's definition.

We'll investigate it.

Sorry, but I can't stop playing with it....

Connect two crossings alone and set end angle of the non-connecting leg of one to 90 degrees and the parallel end angle of the other is also 90 degrees.

But install that snippet of flex track and between them and suddenly you get that rounding error (0f by .00000001 degrees -- not sure how many zeroes there actually were....  :) )

David:

It doesn't seem to the crossing, because I can connect any number of crossings in line and not get that rounding error.  It seems to be triggered by that straight snippet.

Okay, I'll shut up now.... :)

(And thanks for the quick response.  I still love AnyRail.)

Hello Mike,

We've taken the measurements from the Peco templates. However, we've experienced before that they're sometimes slightly off.

Do you happen to own one of those crossings that are supposed to be 154mm long?

If so, could you please measure its precise length (along the track), preferably in mm?

The problem is caused by the fact that the crossing is 10 degrees, with a track distance of 26.5mm.
In this case, that would imply a track length of 151.4mm. That, or the angle is not 10 degrees, or the parallel track distance is not 26.5mm.

Thanks in advance!

David.

I don't own one (or any Peco track, for that matter) but, with a little bit of luck I can get some help from one of the local hobby dealers this weekend.  And, yes, I'll get the measurements in mm.  It will finally convince me I'm glad that I paid for that side of the ruler, as well....  :)
