Jeff announced a week or so ago that the power supply for his laptop had died. I guess since then the battery has gone flat and we haven't heared from him since.

RhB_HJ

Yeah I remember that, I'm just surprised he wouldn't use his Equal-Half's computer. :-X :-X

It just goes to show that some are more equal than others...........

A little sympathy....

If I were accidentally without access for even 24 hours, my first post when I got back would be datelined "From the Cockoo's Nest".  (Think Jack Nicholson if the allusion isn't clear.)

One of the reasons I *don't* own a laptop or an IPhone or a YouBook (beside the fact my pudgy fingers hate the keyboards and my eyes can't read the screens) is I'm fighting the addiction (at least when I leave the house, anyway.  At home, making fun of a Swiss ex-pat with a penchant for collecting rocks is just too great a temptation....  ::) )

BTW, I'll be "off the grid" for three days this mid-week.  I'm off to the wilds of Pennsylvania to ride the Strasburg Rail Road - and I'm not even bringing a basic cell phone.  (That I *do* own, but anyone who needs to contact me has been given a carrier pigeon that can find me - if my companions don't think squab would make a delicious diner, anyway....)

Yeah, yeah I do feel sorry for .... whoever has to put up with him while he goes stir crazy. OTOH since he always has a "Plan B" I'm surprised he doesn't have one for this situation. :o :o

Sometimes you turn to plan B and it gets used up and then what?  It's not the laptop power supply, but the internal laptop power supply logic board- on a 6 year old Dell latop. I leave it to your imagination h0w easy that is to get and have installed for someome with zero current income. I'm now trying to find apower supply for the 9+ year old desktop that is my main system.

Darn good thing I have this smartphone, hmm? Sadly, I can't run AR on it...

Jeff:

At least it's the computer and not you.  I was starting to worry it was something important....

Glad to hear otherwise.

Any news about Jeff? It's very quiet on the forum without him, although Mike & HJ are trying hard.....

 ;D ;D

BT,

Problem is: I do have another life, part of which involves getting "stuff" done before the snow flies. It wouldn't be the first time that we're skiing by the end of October (three weeks to go??). Last year I winterized the water features with 30 minutes to spare before it snowed.  :o  :o
With a bit of luck and hard work I hope to avoid that this year.  ;)

I guess Jeff is still trying to figure out which of the conked out 'puters can be fixed.

Hi guys,

I emailed Jeff and he is OK. He just can't afford a new computer at this moment and his old one is fried.

He hopes to be back in December!

Most of the time I look at situations like that from two sides; it can either be an utter disaster or the chance to get a lot of stuff done which should/could have been done instead of doing the computer routine.
In Jeff's case e.g. scratchbuilding more bridges and structures in N scale.

Or reorganizing "things" to get extra space and getting rid of "door stops" which take up space.

To All...

Sorry, the supply is still powerless. I've even had to replace my smartphone because the charging socket broke! I may have a line on a new psu for the desktop, so after dealing with the holiday bills, it is a definite goal to get back online. In the meantime, I'll just keep an eye on things.

Version 5.4 huh? I look forward to being. able to run it...
