On the move, finally.

After about two years of procrastination I'm finally into my last week in 'Tukkerland' (for the uninitiated, that's the Twente area of the Netherlands - roughly the southern half of the Overijssel province).  Been here for twenty years, and in NL for forty. Left UK in 1967 for a three-year contract in South America, and never been back there to live, but now we take the plunge and head back to N.Wales where I was at university fifty years ago.
Starting off in a rental place while we look for something more suitable where I can at last get all my train stuff back out of its boxes where it's spent most of the last two years.

Still working on my layout and will continue to do so until I have a definite room to put it in. I'm trying to combine 1950's era British (in OO) with 1990's era Dutch (in HO), so I'm working on a mythical creation in the middle of the North Sea, with stations such as Goodwin Central (terminus) and Dogger Riverside (suburban passenger plus intermodal interchange (train/truck/boat). Since I'm working in HO/OO, space will determine how much more I can fit in. At least it keeps the mind active for the moment, although Anyrail makes it all so much simpler.

Hope everyone in the northern hemisphere is enjoying their summer breaks.

I just spent two weeks in the "sweltering" (70 degrees Fahrenheit, 21 Celsius) UK.  For a New Englander, Olde England's temperatures were downright chilly for summer but, somehow, I muddled through without sweaters or frostbite.

Nice country,  not sure why we were so anxious to separate from it.  And thank you for the recommendations  - the real reason for this wandering, pointless post.  Saw the National Railway Museum in York and rode The Jacobite - first time I've seen a steam engine running tender first on the main for (the return) of half the trip.

That's what happens when they take out the turntables, here's a video from Alberta. They run Tender first on the way out and normal on the way back, after nightfall when filming is for the birds.  >:(  >:(
