I have had 2 attempts at setting my LAYERs and both ended up the same,Levels.any where all or part of my layout is copied to ALL LAYERs

Hello and welcome to the forum. Layers are powerful, but tricky to get right. Took me a while to understand how they work, but once you do it's pretty straightforward. Read the manual if you haven't already.

Anyway, all your tracks are allocated to the "top level" layer only, and nothing else. You can easily see this by turning off the "top level" layer in the layer list - just turn off the light bulb in that layer (make sure you have another layer selected when you do this as you cannot turn off the selected layer; just click another layer to select it). As you see, when the top level is turned off, all your tracks disappear.

To allocate some tracks to another layer, select the tracks, and then select the layer you want from the layer drop down in the menu on the Track tab which pops up when you select a track (do not select in the layer list).

A tip: since the layers list is sorted in alphabetical order, I number the layers so I get the order I want, see picture

:( :( as HELP says, I have my PLAN in BASE, along with other LAYERS of the layout, I click an other layer then, SELECT the TRACKS to be moved to the NEW LAYER, only to find, EVERY NEW LAYER is already full of the NEW LAYOUT, so I thought of DELETING all from the NEW LAYER then placing the WANTED section in, only to find THAT is in ALL MY NEW LAYERS.

Select the items you want to move to another layer, and then select the target layer from the RAILS or SELECTION tab.

Don't paste it into a new layer.

Sorry to say no luck, to what seems to simple task.
this plan has 2 sections of a Fuller plan of a Base level above.
There is 4 Layers made, but somehow these 2 sections are in EVERY LAYER.
I will post this and see what happens.

Adding to this, I have HILIGHTED one section that I wanted to be separated from the other, also if I Add the BASE it will be OVER the other two sections

I'm wondering if I understand correctly what you want.

First of all, layers are not the same as levels. You might have multiple levels in your plan, for instance a ground level, a hidden staging yard below it, and possibly a mountain track above it, so all having different heights (or elevations).

Layers are nothing more than sets of elements, for instance scenery, track, room layout, etc. Of course you can subdivide your track into several layers if that's convenient, but that's all up to you.

In your plan, it seems that all track is in the '20 Storage under' layer at the moment.

Now, if you want to move the area with the turntable to 'Base', select the track around there, and on the TRACK tab, select '01 Base' from the drop down list under 'Layer'.

The result is, that if you switch off the light bulb in the Layers tool (the pane with the list of all the layers) next to '20 Storage under', only the elements in the '01 Base' layer will still be displayed.

THANKS again David,
Slope, Height, Vertical Clearance are in my mind OK.
My understanding of the LAYERS was to separate any different Levels, from MY START of Anyrail, having trouble with LAYERS, was seen once and forgot, so I put up with Slope, Height, Vertical Clearance have helped me to know any of my PLANS better without LAYERS.
Now with THIS layout(3000mm x 2400mm) for a friend that is learning Anyrail, I thought I better Help him as much as I can.
THIS LAYOUT is a BASE(0mm), a DECLINE(0-100mm) a STORAGE YARD and TURTABLE(100mm), although not connected as yet but need be later somewhere, when my Friend decides on where and how much he wants.
It seems that I must be clicking every Layer or somehow a rather I seem to get MY LAYOUT in all LAYERs, doing something I should not be doing.
Now I think I will try again, I have for now got the BASE(0mm) hilighted so I might click "20 Storage Under" with its Bulb OFF, and take the Hilighted Base to "01 Base" then turn off the Base Bulb and go back to Storage, tag the DECLINE, then turn of the Storage Bulb, then click the Decline and that should have the 3 Sections, Base, Decline, Storage separated.
more later perhaps

The bulbs in the 'Layers Pane' are just there to switch the visibility of layers on or off. You can't use this pane to move items to another layer.

Currently, all your track is in the '20 Storage Under' layer. This means that whenever the light bulb for this layer is on (or if it is the active layer), all track is displayed.

If you put your track in layers per level, you can easily switch the visibility of the level.

To illustrate this in your file, I have moved everything at height 0 to '01 Base', everything at height -100 to '20 Storage Under', and the slope to '10 Incline'. Furthermore, I've added a layer named '30 Benchwork' for the lines indicating the train table.

I hope this helps!
