Ungroup issue

Hi,

Progressing with my first design, I have a number of layers
Room, Baseboard, Track
I have grouped the various baseboard elements, but now need to change the dimensions of one of the elements.
I make the Baseboard layer the active one, and ungroup the elements.
This is working fine.

However, when I have ungrouped the baseboard elements, a large section of track segments, that reside on the "Track" layer disappear.

I'm confused! 🤨🤨

Hi, It's hard to decipher exactly what's going on, it usually is easier if you also post the .any file, or at least an example .any file that shows the problem.

Btw, to create a new file with just the problem items, you can simply copy/paste tracks etc. between two open .any files.

But note that the layer assignments change when you paste items, so that might mean that we don't see the problem.

Hi Magnus & BadBanana,

Hopefully the .any file attaches OK

This is what I am trying to do step by step:

I make Baseboard layer the active layer
I hide the Track layer
I hover over the baseboard elements
I right click
I click on "Ungroup" on the toolbar
The individual elements show, including the 'point markers' on the corners.
I can edit the individual element.

However, if I now make the Track layer visible, half the track elements appears to be missing.

If I undo the changes, the track elements reappear!

I think the problem results from the fact that you have everything at the same height, and in such a case AnyRail will show some items in the order that they appear internally in the database (it's an educated guess).

There are a couple of ways around this.  The simple one is to select all of the track and set its height to be just a small amount above zero.

Another way is to force AnyRail to place structures at similar heights in order, from back to front - something like this....

1. Select the Baseboard layer; Hide the Track layer
2. Select everything on the Baseboard layer
3. Ungroup it.
4. Reselect everything on that layer.
5. Select "Send to Back".
6. Select "Tabletop" (tick box).
7. Group it.
8. Select "Send to Back" again.
9. Re-enable Track layer.

Now all of the Baseboard is defined as a Table top, and even though it is as the same height as the track, it will always be drawn on the screen before the track. And if you ungroup the baseboard elements the track remains visible.  That version is attached.

Personally, I generally set the heights with the baseboard at zero and then track starting at perhaps just 1mm above.
