Hi Paul,

I've only now looked a bit further into the list you compiled in  August. At the time you posted it we were on holiday so unfortunately it didn't get the attention it needs. Sorry about that.

I suggest we go through it, update the track descriptions in the library where needed/possible, see about the numbering of some parts, and give you a test version once we're done to see if it's any better.

David.

Thanks for agreeing to take another look.

I will go through the listing and ensure it is as up-to-date as possible using the Lionel.com website; latest Lionel O-Gauge catalog, plus instruction manuals for any of the FasTrack pieces.

I'll send the list to you as soon as it's done.

I will attempt to identify each piece in the multiple piece sets. Unfortunately I do not have some of them so I can't look to see if there are alternate pieces that will work, such as the 6-12060 in lieu of the 6-12029A - not compatible!

Probably take me a few days to accomplish this.

Thanks,

Paul Y

@David,
Remember that I asked for a little thing called 'track grouping'? I'm willing to bet that having such groups available as a tool would solve your problem AND Paul's. Once you have track groups, you get the ability to take things like 6-12029A x 2 & 6-12029B x 1 and pack them into one track group. It should then be simple to stick the 6-12029 tag on it and the end-user will get all 3 parts to use as he should expect. The same situation is more than a single occurrence as you well know. There are quite a few examples of one manufacturer's catalog number actually including multiple parts.

While that may be true in some cases, the problem becomes which additional track piece(s) are unique to that set or are similar to other separately sold items?

If you read the posts between David and myself about 6-12052 and 6-12062, the additional pieces are unique to those items whereas the additional piece included with 6-12020 appears to be the same as the separately available 6-12024.

I'm not sure how this can be worked out, but am working on an updated track listing. I've looked at the latest catalog, the Lionel website, and any manuals that come with all the different FasTrack pieces. So far, it looks like some come with additional pieces that are unique to that basic piece and other additional pieces are the same as separately available pieces.

Confused?  I'm somewhat as to when each situation applies.

Yep, I read them. Think it through- if YOU know what parts actually come with a particular group part number from the manufacturer, then YOU can create a grouping with the proper number. If there is an online server space for sharing such user-created Objects (here in the form of your three pieces of track, for instance), then ALL users can share in your specialized knowledge of that track system. It also helps David out, because such objects then would not necessarily have to be created by him all the time and you, as the forum's expert on the Lionel track, could keep your donated Object up-to-date in case of changes. Does that clarify what I mean?

Absolutely not; I'm confused about server space and Objects.
I'm not an expert in Lionel's FasTrack, just a user!

I have an updated list that shows what items come with the various track pieces. Problem is I don't have all the track pieces so I can only guess for some of them.

I've attached the latest update - especially for David's review.
He's agreed to take another look and I'm satisfied with that.

It's okay. Watch for the next update. It will solve a bunch of issues (not all, but some big ones).
