Perhaps the problem is that 'Create slopes' is on by default.

If you switch that off nothing unexpected should happen.

Dave,
I do not see a place to turn "Create Slopes" on or off?

It's in the dialog when you use the 'Set height' function on an endpoint.

David,
I had just found it. Not sure that is a good place for it. I will have to see if it has been impacting me. I tend to Set & Lock the heights at the 2 ends of a slope and then select everything inbetween and then click Smooth Slope. Works well enough for me. Although it would be nice if the endpoints with Locked Heights were flagged (like the glue can be shown or hidden).

I guess I had been ignoring that as being unimportant. That will stop immediately. However, I do want to post my vote for removing it from there sooner-the-better. Slopes should not have anything to do with setting or locking the height. Even more immediately if the thing is on by default. It should NEVER be on by default.
