Exporting as GIF/PNG image with transparency?

Hey guys, new user here. I'm not sure if this should be in Wish list or if the option exists and I just haven't uncovered it yet.

I'm not a railway modeller by any stretch of the imagination, but I am interested in graphic design and am currently focusing on map creation. I decided a good way to do this would be to use railroad design software (as I do have a passing interest in railways) and then design my map around the track patterns I come up with. I'm sure to those more knowledgable on the subject they'll look ridiculous, but whether or not they'd actually work isn't a big issue to me!

My ideal software for the rest of the map is Photoshop, so I was wondering if there's any way I can export the track layer alone, against a transparent background rather than the white default background. This would make it far easier to import to Photoshop and start painting under. Is this possible?

As an alternative, I could export as BMP or GIF then erase the white area myself, but the image would need to have anti-aliasing disabled for that to work reliably. I notice a lot of other railway design software lacks anti-aliasing, but I'm finding AnyRail so much more user-friendly I thought it'd be worth trying to stick with it, if I can.

Any tips, ideas? :)
Thanks in advance!

Welcome to AR!

Hmmmmm  .... would using a chroma key colour as the background of the track plan work?

I tried it just now, exported as a GIF imported in Photo-Paint, resaved the GIF and designated the Chroma Green as the transparent colour.

As you can see even though I had anti-aliasing selected when resaving the GIF there are green artifacts along the track.

It worked slightly better when using Chroma Blue. If it's good enough you need to decide.  ;) :)

Hey there,

Great idea :) I managed to get good results with the green chroma. I haven't tried the blue yet, but either way, very satisfactory! It's not 100% perfect so I'm still open to alternate methods if anyone has a bright idea they'd like to throw in, but until then I should be able to work with this.

Thanks again for the help.
