1:22.5 in the garden

When people post actual dimensions of the available space with a few additional "crucials" my eyes start to gleam, still more when it is a garden and the theme is to be RhB in 1:22.5
It gets even better when a sketched track plan - aka the first kick at the can - is included.

There's only 3 things stopping me from installing a heck of an outdoor railroad: Money, digging maybe 2 1:1 scale miles of roadbed, and Money.

You didn't mention your aching back.  ??? ???

The guy who owns the garden figures he'll be moving 33 yards of dirt for starters. I'm sure glad I don't have that many left to do, hauling rocks is bad enough.

There were some slight changes to the foot print drawing.

But once they were done I could .......rethink the plan and then correct.  :o :o

The blue lines come and go to Staging (in the basement) the high entrance is at +800mm, the lower one at + 100mm. The yellow track of the station is at "0", the red loop is level, max grade is 3% on the first section of the blue line getting to the blue station.
Auto operation by computer, just enough switching tracks to get the extra interest when desired.

No, no! That's part of what the money is for- renting a small back hoe to move dirt, rocks, and nasty multi-floral rose bushes. I think I could maybe put off the real 2 miles (3+ km) of roadbed, but they make you rent the earth-moving equipment by the day, so I might as well dig the entire 2 miles, right? :)

Added a few structures and stuff. At this stage you can see how I make sure the platforms are far enough from the track. The "Parallel Track" feature is very handy for that and once I use that outline for a surface ....

I also make the track in the tunnels disappear using a "Invisible" layer.

A few more structures and it's ready for export to COREL to do the scenery.   ;)  :)

That's about it for this one. The structures around the main station and the station on the red line will need to be added; following what happened along the blue line: suggestions of habitation!

Ready for COREL.

HJ
thanks for posting your trackplan for your garden rr.
it is wonderful! i hope i get the opportunity at some point to move my hobby out of doors.
just wondering, and sorry if you already noted and i missed it or forgot it (both are quite
possible with how my mind works!)
the blue tracks which enter your basement
do they attach inside somewhere making a loop
or do they remain separate making a point to point?
i hope you continue to post info and photos! they are great to see!
peace,

Gary,

This is not "my" garden layout, it's a plan for a guy in Switzerland who was "stuck" on what to do with the available space.

The plan for my garden layout looks like this

On the layout proposal, there are still a few question marks regarding Staging. But there will be a height difference of 700mm between the two entry/exit points. I'm very curious to find out what the plan is for that Staging setup in the basement. Mind you I have seen a few around-the-room solutions with that kind of height difference. If that is the plan it will be narrow twice around the room with enough storage based on three tracks deep and staggered cross-overs (like staging in a conventional helix); that will allow a lot of "stacking".

On my layout I roughed out the curved section of the retaining wall (RH side lower section) - digging out roots and getting rid of HD bushes - while the weather was good yesterday. Today we're back to rain. ::) ::) >:(

What has been operational so far can be seen in this video

A lot more to go e.g. 13+ turnouts and a lot of track to build, not to mention a gazillion structures  and "stuff".

Ah. That was one thing missing from the Swiss guy's layout- a water feature. It's so easy to get pond/stream/fountain hardware these days, at least in the US, that it should be almost mandatory.

HJ, ah yes! sorry for the confusion on my part.
I like them both!
The video of your garden rr is excellent. Looking really good.
Thanks for sharing both.
Much appreciated!

Hey HJ, what's that gray line that goes from Kran to around the top of the tunnel marked lade-gleis?

Jeff,

That's the ridge of the hill/mountain that I'm adding in COREL.

Oh. Ok. Anyway, the two bridges don't indicate much when applied in an outdoor layout. People just assume that they will cross what is modeled as a dry stream bed. That's something I have gotten heartily tired of looking at. If you're going to involve a water-course, then go all the way and use real water!
