Although we've thoroughly tested, we have received a few reports of people having problems running AnyRail 5.3 on XP Service Pack 3.
Unfortunately, we cannot reproduce it on any of our XP test systems.

We are looking for someone that wants to help us to fix this issue. If you encounter this problem, are willing to do some tests, preferably speak English or Dutch, and have some computer skills (such as being able to go into the Windows Registry and change some keys or values), would you please let us know?

Thanks!

David, I'm running it on XP(SP3)(Home edition) and so far I have not had any problems with it.

Dave,
I am running XP/Pro SP3 and just installed AR 5.3.
It was able to open my current plan not problem.

Any particual issues they are facing?

I am fairly fluent with Windows so let me know how I can help.

Thanks all so far for offering help.

The problem is that on most XP computers the software works OK. Also on our test machines.

What we need is someone with a computer on which it does NOT run, so we can try and analyze what's causing this.

Thanks again!

Kind of a tangent, but only "kind of"....

David, after 42 years of "playing with computers", I know what a pain it is to find the "I can't duplicate it" problems.  I really am impressed by your dedication to trying to find and fix them. It says a helluva lot about the quality of the product - possibly even more than it's ease of use, which is, itself, a high bar to exceed.

I'm not fawning.  Just really, truly impressed.

Thanks for being you,
Mike

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the praise! Well, if I were an AnyRail user and the latest update wouldn't work on my computer, I'd be greatly disappointed.
So that's why I think it should be fixed no matter what.

Of course when Microsoft drops XP support in April 2014 we will drop it too.

The problem with supporting such old systems is that it becomes very hard to take advantage of new possibilities, and really slows down development of new features.

Thanks!

David.

Hi

I have also found a problem with ver 5.3 not working on my (quite old) PC :( which runs Windows XP Home Edition version 2002 SP3.
I cannot claim any particular PC expertise, but may be able to help.
For the record: the processor is an AMD Duron 1.36GHz and the machine has 1.21 GB of memory.  Norton Internet Security runs in the background.

Kind regards
Charlie Wilson

Hi All,

The problem seems to have been 'isolated'.
It has to do with the older AMD and Intel instruction sets that lack support for SSE2.
For AMD, it's the Athlon and older, for Intel it's the pre-Pentium 4 series.

If you don't know what that means, don't worry, I only found out about this today ;)

We're in the process of fixing this. Hopefully everything will be resolved in a couple of days.

For the people who helped pointing this down: thanks!

David.
