The incremental DB.

The biggest difference: a staging yard at the lowest level the lowest level (0). Four lay-over tracks and a through track. Two branchlines connect to the sceniced level (+5.5"). A double tracked loop goes around the backdrop (the brown line down the center), town scenery on the right; country scenery on the left. The station is the junction  where the two branchlines connect. Operation: Start in either direction from staging to get to the junction; run around the double track oval, then get back to staging via the other branch line. The two branches together with the tracks through the station are one loop. The double track is the other loop.
Now the engine facilities have a real function. If a branchline train terminates at the junction the engine needs to be turned to head back on the same branch (applies to either branch). Those trains will also drop off cars - passenger and freight - that need to be forwarded.

A lot more hands on action.  ;)

@HJ: In your plan you've included a Roco 42322 double crossover. According to my information, this is no longer available from the manufacturer. Do you have other info, as I could make use of these myself?

(In fact, Roco seem to have stopped making Code 100 track altogether - only Code 83 on their website)

Thanks Kim! IMO that's what track planning fora are about: adding suggestions what could be done in a given space.

@BT

I don't know if they do or don't.  :-\  :-\  Usually I pick whichever track systems I believe are compatible - and available in a given country.
If Roco C100 is no longer available  ???, David could perhaps add a note to that library.  :)

Sorry to bump this post
But I would be really interested to know if there is a copy of this plan with the extensions done

No, but if .... one would/could be a mine, the other one the ......

That's the only way to put it: '...'. Leave it to the user if it's a stereotypical western US 'mine' or open-pit or... So, there's no way to tell what the other extension needs to be until you pick what you're mining. I think the center backdrop needs to be extended, in that case, so that the ends are a lot closer to the table ends. On the 'top' end, I could see a steep forested mountain slope trending downhill from the backdrop towards the table edge and hitting ground level just before the track. Or maybe end it in a rock cut.

I came across mention of using foam as the base material on scenery and covering it to "ground" level with wallboard taping compound. It really looks very nice when carved to shape and painted/planted. The wallboard compound takes paint and weathering materials very well, of course.

Basically, there is only so much time and once the elementary stuff is in it should be relatively easy to add the rest. Given the real estate the possibilities are constricted to fairly small operations on the extensions. Afte all the whole should make some sense, too.
As always strictly my opinion.
