Swapping track libraries

This may sound a bit of a strange request (and  beyond what might be a reasonable product feature I would accept) but has anyone found a way of swapping the track library of an existing plan? Obviously the two libraries must have the same geometry and you would need some schedule of equivalent items. This has cropped up for me because I like 'vintage' layouts and would like to convert layouts originally drawn in, for example Marklin 3600 series to M or Tri-ang Super 4 to current Hornby. Not a major issue as easy enough to adapt material lists but would be nice to be able to convert the plans without a lot of work.

Thanks for any help.

David

I think the easiest way to do this now is to use the old track plan as a picture, and trace it.
You can load a picture into AnyRail by first creating a surface, and then loading an image onto it.

If you then put it in the background, it should be quite straightforward to 'overlay' it with the more modern track system.

As you say, to implement this as a feature is very cumbersome, and most track libraries differ in crucial places such as the turnout angles or lengths, so it will only work in a very limited number of cases.

I assume you already have a track plan loaded in Anyrail, or you would not need to convert it.

Simply add an additional layer for the new track plan, lock the layer(s) with the original track plan and lay track from the new manufacturer right over the old on the new layer.  I did this when converting a large part of my layout from Bachmann sectional track to Peco flex track and it went very smoothly.

Thanks for your helpful comments. Yes I can see how that would work so helps me one my way.
