Tried to retrieve this and was sent a code but when I used it, it says 'this product is not registered'?!

A license purchased for a certain version is also valid for the subsequent version, but not for the version following that.

So, a license purchased for version 4 is also valid for version 5, but not for version 6.
Of course, you can continue to use the version for which you have a valid license for as long as you like.
