Question on lengths (piece of track)

Does anyone know whether the "length" shown when you call up the "details" of an individual piece of track is:

a) the length of the centreline (which you'd need for planning the layout and subroad bed etc.), OR

b) the length of the piece of track you'd actually need to have to lay the track - which for a curve is determined by the length of the outer rail?

I am guessing (a), which would be most straightforward for the software to produce?  But this does mean that when constructing the layout you need somewhat longer pieces of flextrack for the curve, because when you bend flextrack into curves the outer rail doesn't get any longer!

It's the length of the centerline indeed, and you need to account for a little extra for the outer rail.
