Variable text on user object uploads

Is there a way to upload a User Object such that it has a fixed text box (with or without text), which can be edited by the user without breaking the relationship between the Object and the list of Materials? For example, a generic station sign, or the Kato 24-850 etc switches which have a text symbol indicated?

I've attached an example of the item I just uploaded, one grouped with the NAME fixed as part of the model, the second applied from the Symbols catalogue but then ungrouped to allow editing of the NAME field. Therefore, only one shows up on the Materials list.

(As an aside, is there a way to make the text box variable length but centered for longer names?)

I'm sorry, but that is not possible.
You can of course use 'Modify object', and then 'Ungroup' if necessary, and edit the individual elements.
But then it's just a drawing, and not a user object anymore.

So perhaps a future version of the object creation system could distinguish between 'regular' and 'editable' text boxes, the latter being a new creation?
