It would REALLY REALLY REALLY be nice if when and object, track item, point, line, etc. is selected you could hold down a key so it would move perfectly horizontal on the x axis and a key to hold down for moving perfectly vertical on the Y axis. YOu can already do this with the end of a piece of flex track to extend it straight and it would be super useful if it can be done on all objects, points and lines.

Currently, you can use the arrow keys to move up/down/left/right

yes, but that only moves it a few pixels at a time, when you need to move an object all the way across a layout or to line up curves on opposite ends of the benchwork the arrow keys take forever

What I do when wanting to move a piece of track across the layout while maintaining say the y coordinate, is to select the connection or the tail of the piece, and enter the new X coordinate on the other side of the layout.  Voila it jumps  across the layout.   Then I nudge it into position with the arrows.
