I have sent a wlcome email in this forum at least a dozen times in the last year, responding to a member's first post. Sadly, in most of those cases, the OP never showed up again, still with a post count of 1. Is this a new phenomenon or has it always been like this? Just curious...

I have no idea.  I have sometimes done the same, but not always had a follow up.  Maybe they're bots?  Or maybe just signing up for a look around but then not taking it any further.
