I was excited to see that we now have the ability to change the origin of the co-ordinate calculation, as I thought it would make my life a bit easier. I was sort of right!

I have basically a U-shaped layout on its side, and I am working mostly on one leg of the layout at the moment. So that means that, under the "standard" settings, the front of my board was y=626 (mm). But for ease of placing buildings and marking out roads, I wanted the front to be y=0 and the back edge to be y=600. The edges are x=26 and y=26 (because of skirting boards and the shelves I am using as supports), and I wanted x=0. It's taken me a while to get my head around how to achieve this! I got some weird results in the meantime.

It's a three-step process:

1. Go to Settings, set Y-axis to be up, and leave the origin at 0,0. This (obviously) puts your origin at the bottom left corner.

2. Go to Home and find the point that you now want to be 0,0; write down the current co-ordinates. As far as I can tell, going Home forces AR to reset the origin.

3. Go back to Settings and put the values in the appropriate boxes.

Now when you select an item, it will show its position relative to your new origin.

Hope this helps somebody!

What might help is to tick 'Origin' on the Show tab.

Here is the section in the manual:
