Select a lines on another object/line

Hi!
I am thankful for any suggestions, help or maybe this is a feature request.

I draw different levels of a basement using lines.

When placing a line above another, even if they are on different layers, it is
a little tricky to select one of the lines.

Just before writning this I tried to give them different "height" value.
From now I can select the line, but only on certain parts of it.
Maybe that is an intention?

I attach a file where you can watch a movie and see images of the issue.

So maybe I am doing something wrong,
or you have a smart trick how to handle this.

Thank you for all help in advance :)

Possible feature request
When 2 objects are very close, you for eg. can right click to select a object. (Another feature could be that you can edit line information also when selecting a control point of the line, not just get the point style and position)

I've added your video and picture here, and made a note on our to do list.
I'm not sure yet what the best approach would be here.

In any case, if you box-select (drag a box with the left mouse button down), only elements completely in that box will be selected. So if one line is shorter, that may be an option.

David,

As a work-around, couldn't you just set the Height in View to include only the line you want to work with?

Yes, that works as well if you've given the lines different heights.

Well, he does say different levels, but he also mentions layers, so he could just as easily turn off the layers he is not using.

Thanks for all replies.

Yes I found (seen in the video) a work-around but it is not the best solution.

If the line/object is long the box select is tricky and different levels may become complicated as most peapole (maybe?) do not think of Anyrail as a fully featured 3D-program and therefore not assign levels.

Layers does work also bur sometimes you wish to see both layers and an object may have been assign to a layer mistakenly.

In for example KiCad the solve this: if the software can not identify or cleraly understand which object you clicked - for example when they are to close to each other, they generate a pop up and there you can select which object you wish to edit.

I made a note of your ideas, but we're not sure yet what's the best option here.

What about this:

Where two components are very close, as Johan has in his plan, but are in different layers, could there be some sort of priority given to the active layer when attempting to select just one of them?

One solution I have found is to zoom in as close as you can; unless the two lines (or whatever) line up exactly, there should be sufficient distance between the two to select only one. Another trick (which has worked for me) is to do the zoom, then move the mouse pointer to the side closest to the wanted object, and move it very slowly towards it. As soon as the object lights up, click!

Note that you don't always have to be right on top of something to select it, either. I don't know how many times I have tried to start a line, but AR thinks I want to do something to the nearest object; use this to your advantage in this scenario.

Cheers,

Nick
