We need some Object-ivity

Please consider letting the Object libraries show no matter what scales are chosen. A small factory or depot in HO becomes a medium-size one in N scale and no-one need worry about the mixed scale, as far as the AR drawing is concerned.

Do I read correct that you want AnyRail to disgard the scale ?

ONLY in the area of the Object libraries- i.e. buildings, trees, lumps of rock, etc. Since such things are highly confined to 2D outlines, it makes sense to me to have them be less scale-centric. As I said in the original post, buildings and trees, for instance are useful in more than one scale.

The manifacturers of those object have defined the article numbers and the scale. AnyRail informs users about this. It would be very misleading for users when the scale is ignored in AR.

I see Jeff's point, how many people use different scale buildings to produce visual effects. I've use O scale windows when making a factory and will be using N scale shed to give the effect of distance.

Perhaps it would be better to have a library of generic objects that could be used in any scale. I can see the usefulness of making objects available across different scales, but at the same time I can also appreciate the desire to remain true to the product libraries according to their scale.

Jeff

...which would all be resolved if we could add our own libraries. Yes, I know. I don't object to Objects being labeled as their own scale and have the catalog description and part number along as well. I just don't want to have to mess up my track library display by having to, for instance, open Options and click on HO/OO, just to see those Object libraries. Since the things only show up as outlines of buildings or trees and shrubs, they can be useful in a number of scales.

Personally I think it's best to keep the manufactured 'official' objects true to their scale.

However, we've also added a few fantasy trees, shrubs, and stuff that are not bound to a certain scale, although we tried to keep their sizes reasonable for the given scale.

We might just create a more generic library with such objects.

Also, we are thinking of supporting user objects, that can be shared on line.
This means you can draw your own object, and upload it with a number of keywords.
Others can view and download them.

I think it would be very powerful indeed if registered AnyRail users could create objects and add them to public community libraries (or even custom individual libraries that were publicly accessible) which other users could then access as desired. This is somewhat similar to the concept of open source development, and as long as it's kept simple (and safe!), it could really help the application to grow substantially.

@David

Yes, that's part of what I'm talking about. There are a few generic trees/bushes/shrubs, but we need more. If we could add to that library ourselves, it would be nice. We don't NEED access to track libraries- after all, you've already got all the track in each brand added. What we need is for that generic object library available in ALL scales. As such, it shouldn't disappear when one navigates away from HO/OO scale. It's not a track library! :)
