It was a big surprise. After more than a year of complaining about shortness of breath the family doctor finally sent me for more tests.
Everything in super shape until it came to the stress test on the treadmill. That one happened Monday and the cardiologist wouldn't let me go anywhere after I failed it. Angiogram on Tuesday; all the arteries in top shape but the aortic valve needs to be replaced. So it will be open heart surgery in approx. one to two weeks.

At least I can now escape the hospital on day passes, one can only read so many books, go for so many walks before getting bored.

We'll see how it goes.

Cheers

HJ

I hope the operation goes well, and best wishes.

David

Well, at least they found the cause! I'm sure you'll be much better afterwards.

All the above! And good wishes. Maybe they'll let you have a laptop so you can use the time working on layouts with AR? Tell them it's theraputic :)

Thanks for the kind words, everyone.
The surgery happened a week ago, we flew back from the Coast yesterday. Now I'm on the mend; expecting to have good days and not-so-good days ... and activities will be quite restricted for the first six weeks i.e. no driving, lifting restricted to 5 lbs. etc. etc.
I'm establishing a rotating routine, different activities interspersed with rest periods. For instance sitting at the computer will happen in shorter spurts since my back still tires quickly.

BTW they fitted me with the mechanical valve of my choice from On-X .

From all the reports and studies it is better than the rest and since I plan on living "a bit longer" I'd rather put up with the anticoagulant therapy for the time being. It helps to have a few medical professionals as In-laws, the info kept/keeps flowing in. And it doesn't hurt to do ones own research, I sure learned plenty while doing that

Oh yeah, ;) ;) that family doctor of mine, he gets "fired" tomorrow. Nicely worded letter hand delivered. This whole episode should have been tackled at least three years ago, the symptoms just got worse and worse, but I won't bore you with a long story.  ::) ::)

Hey fellow Canadian!

Glad to hear you came through the surgery.  May your road ahead be a long one and your recovery shorter. Doctor's can be wonderful can't they!?  Had a problem with my son and a Doctor and not getting the proper done when it should have been.  He's great today however :)

Anyway, in the great words of a great vulcan - "Live Long and Prosper"

I thought I had Engineered a great layout until I realized I was way off Track.  As a result, I could only kick myself in the Caboose and hope that I could Conduct my ideas in a better way...

David

Good to have you back here!

I wish you a quick and full recovery.

David.
